ABOUT the SECTCV

The Spanish Society for Thoracic-Cardiovascular Surgery (SECTCV: Sociedad Española de Cirugía Torácica-Cardiovascular) is the organization of most of the the certified cardiovascular surgeons practicing in Spain as well as the residents in cardiovascular surgery and other professionals related with the thoracic and cardiac surgery.

On March 20th, 1967, it was founded in Madrid as the Spanish Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (SECCV) and the first Council included Dr. G. Rábago as President, Dr. J. Paravisini as Vice-President, Drs E. García Ortiz and F. Alvarez Díaz as Secretaries, Dr. P. Muñoz Cardona as Treasurer and other 5 surgeons as Vocals. The primary purpose was to develope and to mantain the highest standards of practice of cardiovascular surgery in Spain. Until the present time, the Society has grown and expanded its objectives, which include among others:

  • To promote and share knowledge and experience in cardiothoracic surgery.
  • To safeguard the professional interests of the members.
  • To encourage programs of research in cardiac surgery.

To attain its objectives,  SECTCV holds scientific meetings, publishes articles and researches in its own Journal Cirugía Cardiovascular and organizes and coordinates an annual program-course for the spanish residents in cardiovascular surgery.

Recently the Society has changed its official denomination being now Spanish Society for Thoracic-Cardiovascular Surgery (SECTCV).
